Meet the Author
Harold J. Haughton, II
Harold is a retired educator with 37 years of experience in both high school and middle school. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and a Master of Science degree in School Counseling. Throughout his distinguished career, he also served as a boys’ basketball and football coach, Dean of Athletics, Athletic Facilitator, and Lead Special Education Teacher. Harold has always sought to participate in programs that uplift and educate youth, including teaching a decision-making program in a prison for teenagers. He has also long served as a mentor to his former students and athletes.
Harold is also a gifted musician — a Gospel recording artist and songwriter who has released music and performed under both his birth name and his stage name, HJayH (pronounced “H-Jay-H”). He is the founder and director of U-Book Ministries, G.R.I.P. (a men's support community), Stay Grounded Publishing and Born Down South Productions. In addition, he leads the Men’s Ministry at Bible Gospel Center.
He counts it among his greatest joys to be a devoted husband and father.

G.R.I.P. is a Christ-centered men's support community created to help men become the men God has called them to be through the support of other men.
We believe every man has a story. Some carry wounds they have never addressed. Some struggle with guilt, shame, regret, anger, fear, disappointment, or broken relationships. Others may simply recognize that God is calling them to grow deeper, live stronger, and walk more intentionally in His purpose.
G.R.I.P. creates a safe and supportive environment where men can be real, transparent, and vulnerable without fear of judgment. We believe men need to understand that it is okay to talk about their feelings, struggles, and pain. Doing so is not a sign of weakness. For far too long, society has taught men to suppress their emotions, hide their struggles, and suffer in silence.
G.R.I.P. challenges that mindset by reminding men that acknowledging what hurts does not make you less of a man. It can be the beginning of healing, growth, and restoration.
Our foundation is built on four essential pillars:
GRACE — Receiving God's undeserved favor, mercy, and forgiveness.
RESTORATION — Allowing God to heal, rebuild, and renew what has been broken.
INTEGRITY — Becoming the same man in private that we claim to be in public.
PRAYER — Staying connected to God through consistent communication and dependence on Him.

One Life. Many Roles. One Purpose: To Make a Difference
I am deeply grateful to God for the many opportunities He gave me throughout my 37-year career to serve, lead, encourage, and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Now, He has allowed me to retire. Looking back, I recognize that each role was more than a job or title; it was an opportunity to impact lives, shape character, and contribute to the development of our youth.
Throughout my career, I had the privilege of serving as a Special Education Teacher, Athletic Facilitator, Basketball Coach, and Football Coach. Each of these roles allowed me to reach young people in different ways—academically, socially, emotionally, and athletically. Whether I was teaching in the classroom, coordinating athletic programs, or coaching from the sidelines, my goal was to help young people recognize their potential, overcome challenges, develop discipline, and become the best versions of themselves.
Beyond education and athletics, God also blessed me with the opportunity to serve as a Gospel Recording Artist and songwriter, using music as another avenue to share my faith, encourage others, and spread the message of Jesus Christ. My passion for ministry reflects the foundation upon which I strive to build every area of my life: my relationship with God and my commitment to following Christ.
As I reflect on these experiences, I am humbled by the realization that God allowed me to serve in multiple capacities, each with a common purpose—to make a difference. These roles have shaped my character, strengthened my faith, expanded my understanding of leadership, and taught me the importance of serving others with compassion, integrity, and purpose.
I do not take lightly the influence I have been given or the responsibility that comes with it. The opportunity to contribute to the growth and development of young people has been one of the most meaningful aspects of my journey. My hope is that the lessons I have taught, the encouragement I have offered, the lives I have touched, and the music I have shared will continue to bear fruit long after my service in these roles has ended.
Ultimately, I understand that my identity is not defined solely by the positions I have held or the accomplishments I have achieved. First and foremost, I am a man who follows Christ. I believe that every gift, opportunity, and season of service has been entrusted to me by God, and I desire to use what He has given me to honor Him and bless others.
As I look back on 37 years of service, my heart is filled with gratitude. I recognize that the different roles I have played are connected by one greater purpose: to serve God, invest in people, and make a lasting difference in the lives of others.
